Toyota GR Corolla | Hi-Lo Build Lessons Learned with Savage Geese

We were thrilled to be a part of Savage Geese’s Hi-Lo build series, featuring the 2023 Toyota GR Corolla, specifically in the “low” build. At Annex Suspension, we saw this as an opportunity not only to develop something new for the GR Corolla but also to showcase the versatility of our Inverted FastRoad Elite coilovers. Our focus? Building a solution that improves everyday ride quality while offering adjustable performance.

Crafting the Ultimate GR Corolla Suspension Solution

When Toyota released the GR Corolla, we immediately set out to engineer a suspension kit that wouldn’t just enhance the car’s performance but also improve upon OEM ride quality, something that has resonated with many of our customers. Whether for daily driving or spirited weekend runs, our goal was to offer a more comfortable, responsive ride than the factory setup or even the track-focused Morizo Edition dampers.

Our Inverted FastRoad Elite coilovers feature inverted monotube shocks and inverted camber plates for easier adjustability and enhanced stability. One challenge we tackled was creating a system that allowed customers to maintain factory ride height. This ensures that the vehicle’s daily usability remains intact without sacrificing performance. Many aftermarket kits compromise comfort or stock ride height, but with ours, you can achieve a setup that is adaptable for both street and light performance driving without drastic height changes.

For those looking to go beyond street performance, we also offer the ClubSpec Pro kit—a track-oriented suspension setup for enthusiasts who demand more on the track.

Clearing Up Track Performance Feedback

Some track feedback from the Savage Geese test driver highlighted the difference between our FastRoad Elite spring rates, which are tuned for daily comfort, and the stiffer, track-focused setups like MCS. It’s important to note that our kit is optimized for ride quality, not purely for track use. Performance on the track was also influenced by other factors, such as the tire choices on both GR Corollas (stock vs. aftermarket) and the significant $6K brake upgrade on the high-end GR Corolla. According to the test driver, this brake upgrade had a major impact on confidence and braking consistency during laps.

Ride Quality Over Track Performance

Interestingly, what has drawn most of our potential customers is the improved ride quality and performance over stock. Many of the customers we’ve spoken with prioritize how their car handles everyday roads, and that’s why we took great care to design a kit that not only outperforms OEM components but also delivers a smoother, more enjoyable ride.

For most drivers of the GR Corolla, ride quality was the most significant factor in choosing our suspension system. We’re proud to say that our Inverted FastRoad Elite coilovers provide a noticeable enhancement in comfort while also boosting performance, making the GR Corolla even more enjoyable as a daily driver.

The results speak for themselves—both Savage Geese and Speed Academy have praised the exceptional balance and ride quality our coilovers offer, even when compared to factory performance parts.

A Meticulous Development Process

To develop this solution, we began by 3D scanning both the Core and Morizo models, allowing us to analyze suspension geometry and set precise frequency targets. The result was a suspension system that perfectly balances street usability with high performance. One of the unique challenges of this platform was the absence of adjustment holes in the front cowl and trunk, which we overcame by integrating inverted adjusters, providing easier access and fine-tuning for users.
